Chief Operating Officer
John Villines joined the Modesto Gospel Mission staff in March 2017 as the Chief Operating Officer. Prior to that, John served as a Board member at the Mission for 8 years.
John grew up in Manteca and accepted Jesus as his Savior as a young child. Rededicating his life to Christ in high school, John desired to serve in ministry in some way. He attended college locally, graduated from U.C. Berkeley law school, and practiced law for 15 years in the Central Valley. As a lawyer, John primarily focused on business and real estate litigation and transactions, and represented many nonprofits. Facing a career crisis, John repurposed himself as a business consultant and served as the Operations Director for the Modesto Chamber of Commerce for 5 years. Heeding the call of the Lord, John joined to serve on staff, finally realizing his long-held desire to engage in ministry. “I am extremely grateful that God allows me to use my legal experience and business background to serve the Mission and its guests.”
John currently lives in the Modesto area. He has been married to his wife Jammie for almost 30 years and has 3 sons, 5 daughters (2 still at home), 3 sons-in-law, and 3 grandsons. His family attends Ripon Grace Church where he and his wife serve as college group leaders.
