For those of us who have spent any amount of time with kids (especially parents), you will find that one of the hardest things for a small child to do is stand still. It’s a simple request, and yet they just cannot seem to do it. Their attention span is very low and everything within their tiny minds is urgent. Children will take off after whatever item is in their sight, often neglecting to see anything else around them.

As children of God we tend to be the exact same way. We refuse to stand still because it seems so passive, and instead we run after our own ideas without consulting God…often running straight into chaos. Psalms 46 gives a beautiful picture of the strength and Sovereignty of God.

Psalms 46:8 says “Come and see what the Lord has done” continuing in verse 10 with “He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth’.”

As hardships, trials, and distractions come our way, we must rest in the fact that nothing has escaped God and that He knows exactly what’s going on in our lives. If we have done all that He has commanded us to do, then we need only to BE STILL and know that He is God.
