Hopefully you have been able to steal a few quiet, restful minutes away today. As you meditate on the day, does the word “rest” come to mind? Stress is more of the term that comes to my mind, and what’s even worse is I feel like this is normal. Rest can feel like a foreign concept. If you were to ask me what it means to “rest” outside of sleeping, I wouldn’t have an answer for you.

What is far more interesting is that rest is mentioned in the Bible quite a few times. Christ even offers rest to us in Matthew 11:28-30 which states…

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

It’s amazing that we serve a God who is sensitive to our needs and knows how restless our lives can be; either because of things that we have put upon ourselves, or burdens others have placed on us to carry. However, Christ being the comforter that He is not only recognizes our need, but offers us a solution. We are called to come to Him, to take on His yoke and learn from Him.

I hope that you have managed to find rest today, but if not I encourage you to draw closer to God. He is the only one who can offer us true rest.
