Are you comforted in the storm? Is that even possible? By definition storms are chaotic, unpredictable, and messy. If we are fortunate enough to see a storm coming, we try our best to prepare. However, there comes a time where things get so far out of our control that we must learn to rest in the midst of the storm.
Mark 4:35-41 depicts Jesus and his disciples traveling by boat from one side of the Sea of Galilee to the other. While crossing, they encounter a terrible storm, and even worse, Jesus is sleeping. In Mark 4:38 the disciples wake Jesus up and ask Him if He even cares about what is happening. If we are honest with ourselves, when we are in the midst of a storm often the first thing we ask is if God even cares about what we are going through.
Mark 39-40 states “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, ‘Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?’.”
Here we find the ability to find comfort in our storms. We serve a God who can calm a storm just by speaking to it. When we realize the magnitude of the Savior that we have, we can rest in His ability and His timing.
