Hello Friend of the Mission,

Happy New Year! I’m sure you are feeling the same way I am – where did 2018 go? As the Modesto Gospel Mission reflects on this past year, we celebrate alongside of you for the lives that were impacted and transformed through the Lord Jesus Christ. This previous year we served together with you to change our community and bring hope through the gospel message of salvation and grace in Christ.

Collectively, through God’s provision, we helped shelter over 1,500 different men, women, and children throughout the 2018 year. These shelter nights provide an abundance of resources to each guest such as a warm nutritious meal, a shower, clean clothes, a safe place to sleep, case management, scriptural support, and sharing the love of Christ to our fellow neighbors that need a place to call home. Perhaps the greatest gift we convey to our nightly guests is hope.

A special word of gratitude is also due to all the people who volunteered and supported the Modesto Gospel Mission throughout the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. During our Great Thanksgiving Banquet & Bundle Up event we served over 750 individuals and families, providing a place to enjoy a tasty traditional Thanksgiving meal and receive essential winter clothing during the cold season. Likewise, our Happy Birthday Jesus party was a great success, providing a complete meal and a new gift for men, women, and children in our community (more than double those we served at Thanksgiving!). It is because of your gifts of time, donations, and funding that we can be a tangible representation of the love of Jesus to the “least of these” throughout the holiday season, and the entire year.

I wanted to share with you a testimony of Jacob, a young man that has touched my heart these past few months. Jacob joined our New Life Program on October 18th, 2017, and whose life has been transformed by the power and the love of Jesus Christ.

“I came to the Modesto Gospel Mission because I knew that I needed to change my life by staying sober and healthy. I just wanted God to give me another chance. I am thankful for the Mission and the second chance that I was given because I continue to have my sanity and the clothes on my back. Now I am headed to boot camp after joining the Marine Corps, where I plan to go into the engineering and construction field.”

On behalf of each person this past year that has walked through the doors of the Modesto Gospel Mission, I extend an enormous THANK YOU for your kindness and love. Only together we can achieve a better community that exhibits the true nature of being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. As we head into the 2019 year, the Mission does so with the same commission to be a place of refuge, recovery, and restoration through the love and power of Jesus Christ.

The need has never been greater. Although there is a concerted focus on helping the homeless in this region by our local government and other agencies, the Mission stands alone in its provision of a Day Center and a long-term New Life Program, which helps chronic homeless and addicted transition from a self-destructive lifestyle to a life of employment, housing, and spiritual transformation.

Please prayerfully consider this year how you can partner with the Modesto Gospel Mission as we continue to transform lives. One way you can partner with the Mission is by becoming a recurring monthly champion of the ministry at modestogospelmission.org. Additionally, you can prayerfully consider what you can do this month and send in a donation that will begin to impact lives in 2019. Finally, you can also donate food, clothing, or your time.

Thank you so much for your support and love in 2018. On behalf of the staff and Board, we are grateful for each one of you that donates and prays for the Mission. I look forward to forging ahead in 2019 at this historic time in our community where so many are trying to tackle this problem. The Mission has served the needs of our community since 1948, and with your help we will continue to transform lives.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
– 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
