Conflict, strife, battle, and struggle – words we never want to mark our life. However, if you have lived any amount of time you know that these words often do take place within our lives. We struggle far more often than we would like to admit. We are in battle far more often than we can handle. We struggle with faith, sin, people, money, and everything in-between. What help do we have in these times?
In Exodus 17 we find a battle taking place. Joshua is fighting the Amalekites, and on top of a hill is Moses. As long as Moses continues to hold his arms up the Israelites will be victorious; but if Moses’ arms grow tired and begin to drop, they will begin to lose. Exodus 17:12 says “When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.”
During this battle we see God helping Moses in the form of faithful friends. Through fellow soldiers in Christ, God offers comfort and a vital, helping hand during our most difficult battles. As children of the living God, we need to be committed to holding each other steady. As we traverse these difficult times, pray not only for God’s victory in your life and in your struggles, but ask the Father how you can hold up one another.
