Dear Friends of the Mission,
Our donors’ legacy of generosity has paid dividends in so many lives in our community over the years. Numerous individuals and families have been affected by the Mission, in large part because of you. Men and women have been set free from the power of addiction and the cycles of poverty and brokenness. People have been reunited with loved ones, and many have been rescued through the power of Jesus. There are countless stories of deliverance, rebirth, and reemergence into society.
I am one of those stories. As the Executive Director of the Modesto Gospel Mission, I cannot stress how much I appreciate each of you. Your willingness to be the hands and feet of Jesus gave me a foundation to achieve a new life through Christ some 12 years ago. This same effect that you have had on my life continues to be provided to so many men, women and children on a daily basis. You are making a difference in this difficult condition that we call homelessness and each day you impact a life that simply just needs to experience this love as demonstrated by the Modesto Gospel Mission. I still remember the first day that I walked through these doors; I felt so broken and hopeless, however, this brokenness was met with such an unconditional love that a spark of hope was kindled in my soul at that moment. Today, I simply wanted to say thank you. It is because of you that hope is being provided and the gospel message is being delivered on the campus of the Modesto Gospel Mission.
I wanted to share a fantastic story of redemption that is happening right now in the life of Robert Myers.
“I came to the Mission to find refuge from the streets that had caused me so much trouble. Three of my family members had discovered God and a way of life worth living through the Mission previously, so I decided to give it my all and try out their 18-month New Life Program. Since being at the Mission, I have accomplished the Drug Court Program, am currently off probation, and have over 18 months clean and sober. I am celebrating having a relationship with my big sister again, and have been working on restoring my life so that it is worth every moment. Through Jesus Christ I have found a reason for living.”
Also, let me share with you a quick report card of the impact that the Mission has had these last six months as you have provided the bridge to hope through the giving of your time and resources.
Summer always has an air of living life more abundantly. Many of us associate summer with vacations, swimming, campfires, and road trips. Through your giving and community partnerships, we have been able to provide a little summer fun to those to whom we minister. Kids from our Youth Center were able to attend a Youth for Christ summer camp, sponsored by YFC and several individual donors. Some of our women disciples from our New Life Program were able to attend a camp-out for several days and fellowship with women from a local church. Our biggest impact was the successful Back to School Block Party, which provided shoes, school supplies, and haircuts to needy local children. Of course, Jesus Christ is the One who provides the true abundant life (John 10:10), and at the Mission we use events like these to reveal the One who longs for all to come to Him and find rest.
Thank you! The impact of the Modesto Gospel Mission could not be possible without the support and prayers from you, and your gifts of time, donations and financial support that sustains this Refuge for Recovery. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, as we display kindness and love to those in dire need.
Jason Conway, Executive Director
