Dear Friend of the Mission,

He is risen! Springtime is always a joyous season because everywhere you see new birth and new life, from almond and cherry tree blossoms, to walnut tree buds, to flower bulbs and new grass shoots. What a reminder of the new birth and of the resurrection of Jesus, and our need for Him! He is risen indeed!

The people we serve at the Modesto Gospel Mission are also in great need of salvation. They often live a hopeless existence, trapped in their circumstances and dead to the ability to transform their lives on their own. The Modesto Gospel Mission exists to serve these men, women, and children and to meet their tangible needs while offering them eternal hope of salvation in Christ.

We see men, women, and children transformed daily by a living God that loved each of us so much that He died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. His resurrection destroyed the power of death forever. It is sincerely a joy to experience the resurrection power of our risen Savior at work in the darkest places of addiction and brokenness, bringing each soul to a path of reconciliation and salvation. The need is great in our community, yet we continue to make inroads in to the bleak outlook of despair that permeates the homeless population.

Our programs and services have been tested and proven over the last 71 years, and we see the fruits of your continued generosity and our labor in the lives of those we minister to each day. We are the largest shelter in Stanislaus County, and one of the only organizations that offer a true continuum of care from emergency shelter and meals, to life training and transformation, to employment, and finally to independent living in our apartments. We are proud of our long track record, and it has only been possible by support from people like you.

We honored that support last month at our annual Heart of the Donor Brunch. We had a fabulous time and the amount of supporters who came to the event was incredible. We held the brunch in our remodeled chapel, and we shared the tangible evidence of the resurrection power of Jesus Christ with over 150 volunteers and donors present. I shared what has been happening at the Mission, as well as my vision for what is yet to come. We also shared a video of how the Mission transformed the life of Carlos, our current Kitchen and Donations Manager (as we ate his excellent brunch of eggs, bacon, sausage, and famous biscuits and gravy!). This video is posted below, and I urge you to watch, “like”, and share it. If you missed this great event, tentatively put it on your calendar for next March, as we would love to see you there.

One of news items that we shared during the Heart of the Donor Brunch was our newest program: the work of our “Downtown Disciples” team. For nearly a year we have been in collaboration with the Downtown Modesto Partnership (“DoMo”), sending a team of our New Life Program disciples out to assist in cleaning up Downtown Modesto and neighboring areas. As we head into the spring and summer months, it is with much excitement that we broaden this collaboration to beatify other areas of our wonderful community. Our vision for the Downtown Disciples is to reach out to other neighborhoods and community pockets, and simply serve each area with love. Be on the lookout for the Downtown Disciples in blue vests, as they reach out to impact our city.

As we head into the spring season, I extend a warm Happy Easter to each of you. This ministry would cease to exist if it was not for you that believe in the work that Christ started some two thousand years ago.

Your tangible demonstration of your generosity and affection towards the Mission shows a heart that beats with the resurrection power of the risen Savior. Thank you for caring and revealing the love of Christ by your time, finances, donations, and prayers so that the Modesto Gospel Mission can continue to be a place of refuge, recovery, and restoration through the power and love of Jesus Christ.

If you have anything you would like to discuss or share with me, you can reach me at jason@homelessmission.org. Thank you again, and may the Lord richly bless you this month.
